Summer Hair protection

Summer is finally here — and while we're all for sun worshiping, your hair and scalp deserve a little extra love this time of year. Chlorinated pools, heat, dryness, and excess sweat can quietly damage hair and lead to loss if you're not giving your scalp what it needs.

The good news? A few simple habits can make a big difference. Here are our top five things to do to keep your hair strong and healthy all summer long.

6 Ways to Support Your Hair This Summer

1. Rinse with cool water. 1. Rinse with cool water. After swimming, sweating or EOD, rinse your hair and scalp with cool water. Cool water closes the hair cuticle, locking in moisture and reducing frizz. It also helps flush out chlorine, salt, and sweat before they have a chance to dry and cause buildup, irritation, or breakage.

2. Condition weekly with a clean, nutrient-rich conditioner. Look for formulas with ingredients like aloe vera, chamomile, or calendula which provides a natural layer of UV protection while deeply hydrating the scalp and hair shaft. We recommend shopping for clean conditioners at Credo Beauty — a trusted source for products free from harmful chemicals.

3. Use a hair oil. Oils are your summer secret weapon. They seal moisture into the hair shaft, protect against environmental stressors, and nourish the scalp. (Have you checked out our in-house house oil? It has these properties AND also increases hair growth.) Massage into your scalp after a rinse and leave it in OR rinse out after 30 minutes. Stack this with #4.

4. Massage your scalp regularly. A daily or weekly scalp massage — even just 3–5 minutes — increases blood circulation to the hair follicles, which supports healthy growth and helps distribute your scalp's natural oils. Use your fingertips (not nails) in small circular motions, working from the temples toward the crown.

5. Soothe your scalp with aloe vera. Aloe vera is one of nature's most effective scalp soothers. It reduces inflammation, balances the scalp's pH, hydrating, and provides a cooling effect — exactly what an overheated scalp needs in summer. Look for pure aloe vera gel or products with it listed as a key ingredient. Stack this one with #4.

6. Hydration. Hair is comprised of about 25% water, proper hydration is essential for maintaining active follicles and stimulating the growth cycle. Don't forget the importance of hydrating your body with pure filtered water. A dehydrated body makes you feel tired and weak. Bleh.

A note for your next visit: When you're in the chair, don't hesitate to ask your barber for a clean, gentle shampoo and conditioner after your cut.
