Tips for healthy hair

We tell ourselves 'it's just hair' — and in some ways, it is. A bad cut grows back. A bad dye job can be shaved off. But let's be real: hair means more than that. It's how we express ourselves, often a piece of our identity. How our hair looks affects our confidence. So why not do what we can to protect it and keep it strong for as long as possible?

Here are 5 effective tips to keep your hair healthy, fuller, and help prevent hair loss:

1. Go gentle with wet hair - Your hair is most vulnerable when wet, so avoid aggressive towel drying or combing. Gently pat dry and use a wide-tooth comb if you need to detangle. If you brush or comb aggressively, you can stretch the hair beyond its elastic limit, causing permanent damage or breakage, causing hair to look thinner over time.

2. Improve your scalp health - If you want healthy hair growth, you need a healthy scalp. Massage your scalp regularly to increase blood circulation. This will deliver nutrients to hair follicles. Consider using products with ingredients like biotin that support scalp health. We carry a hyaluronic acid + biotin scalp spray by Hyalogic for scalp improvement.

3. Watch your diet and hydration - Hair growth depends heavily on protein, iron, zinc, omega-3 fatty acids, and vitamins (especially B vitamins and vitamin D). Eat a balanced diet with lean proteins, leafy greens, nuts, and fish. Stay well-hydrated as dehydration can make hair brittle and prone to breakage.

4. Reduce heat and chemical damage - Limit use of hot showers, hair dryers on high heat, and harsh chemical treatments, harsh shampoos and soap bars (which strip natural oils). Opt for sulfate-free, paraben free shampoos that are gentler on your hair and scalp.

5. Manage stress and get quality sleep - We’re all stressed, we get it but chronic stress is a significant contributor to hair loss. Practice stress management techniques and aim for 7-9 hours of sleep, as hair growth primarily occurs during rest periods when your body repairs and regenerates cells.

If you're experiencing significant or sudden hair loss, it's worth consulting a dermatologist to rule out underlying conditions like pattern baldness, alopecia areata (autoimmune condition causing patchy hair loss), or nutritional deficiencies.
